Course Summary
Working inside a correctional facility, whether a local facility, state or federal can take its toll on those who work inside them. Officers work with inmates every day, the threat of violence is always prevalent and the potential to suffer trauma is real. It is imperative that correctional officers know the signs and symptoms of trauma, admit they may be experiencing trauma, and seek the proper avenue to get help. In this course we will define what trauma is and the difference between trauma and PTSD. Correctional officers must be resilient and have the tools to deal with stress and trauma. I will talk about how to build a resilient mindset and finally we will discuss ways to deal with trauma.
