Course Summary

Our decisions and behaviors are the product of two minds: one logical and one emotional.  Emotional intelligence (EI) is about understanding, recognizing, and managing emotions. This is a must-take course for all law enforcement officers. Maintaining control over one’s emotions, especially in today’s world, is critical and very, very difficult. This course can help!

Officers with high EI are more able to:

  • Recognize which emotions they are experiencing and why
  • Understand the link between feelings and behaviors
  • Manage their emotional responses

This course focuses on understanding one’s own emotional responses in order to successfully manage the behavior of others. Law enforcement officers frequently encounter volatile situations, and their response can either help a situation or make it drastically worse. Participants will learn about emotional intelligence and the five steps of emotional processing.  The course details practical techniques for managing emotional responses, the signs of emotional hijacking, and ways to harness the power of the emotional part of the brain.  Having a high EI is critical to working with the public, management, and peers.
