Course Summary
In this course, you will learn which laws and constitutional amendments protect inmates’ rights, and how you can uphold and protect these rights in the course of your duties.
For example, the origin of inmates’ rights in the U.S. comes from the U.S. Constitution (1st, 4th, 6th, and 8th Amendments), from legislatures (both federal and state), and from various court rulings that have set precedents over the years.
This course is comprehensive. Some of the topics discussed in this course include:
- Prison Rape Elimination Act
- Constitutional amendments and inmate rights
- Staff members and misconduct
- The red flags of misconduct

As a corrections officer, the more informed you are, the more you can focus on protecting the rights of inmates and detainees.
