Course Summary
Overall General Course Goal(s):
Leaders and managers must have an understanding of the dynamics which influence effective law enforcement strategies.
Issues of importance are to better understand leadership attributes, conflict resolution, coalition building, motivation, leadership skills, and transitioning from officer to supervisor.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify and deal with elements of the police culture that affect officer behavior, thought, and reaction.
2. Address management and leadership issues related to leadership attributes, balancing management and leadership, conflict resolution, coalition building, employee motivation, developing leadership skills, and transitioning from officer to supervisor.
3. Comprehend the importance of the manager and leader necessity to keep learning and challenging themselves daily.
SUMMARY
The most effective police leaders in today’s complex world of law enforcement and public safety must understand how police officers throughout their entire organization think and feel. The better your understanding of your colleagues, the more effectively you may lead and manage them. In this first segment, dealing with police culture, we will identify important hidden elements behind how most police officers act, think, and react, such as:
