Course Summary
This course on legal cases is not like others you have encountered before. Many of these cases are cases which you have been exposed to at the academy, and others you have come across during your continuing education as a law enforcement officer. And others, you have not yet heard about.
In this course we will look at the case law that has framed the foundation of policing. From reasonable suspicion to excessive force, searches and Miranda confessions, this is the case law you THOUGHT you knew, but it is presented in a different format so you can experience it from new perspectives.
In this course you will often hear a narrative from the officers who worked the cases, as well as from the suspects who were arrested. You will get to see each foundational case from new perspectives. And then we will visit how the modern courts are interpreting the findings in light of the new cases of today.
This is more than a cursory review of these cases.
